In honor of Short Story Month each May, we publish a showcase to celebrate the many different facets of the form. This year, we’ll start small with hint fiction (stories of twenty-five words or fewer) including an interview with Robert Swartwood, who coined the term. Next week, we’ll dive into apocalyptic fiction, including micro fiction about the end of the world and an interview with Benjamin Percy. Then, we’ll study the ways that animals are depicted in our stories, from symbolic presences lurking at the corners of a narrative to literal human-animal transformations. We’ll end the festivities with an interview with Daniel Orozco and original fiction by Ben Loory. The party starts Wednesday. In the meantime, check out some of our content from last year.
