Founded by Kim Winternheimer in 2011, The Masters Review is an online and in print publication celebrating new and emerging writers. We are on the lookout for the best new talent with hopes of publishing stories from writers who will continue to produce great work. We offer critical essays, book reviews by debut authors, contest deadlines, submissions info, and interviews with established authors, all with the hopes of bridging the gap between new and established writers.
The Masters Review has several ways to submit. New Voices is open year round and is available to any emerging writer. This category is always free to enter and pays up to $200 for selected stories. We also host contests throughout the year. Our calendar page includes a full list of our submission opportunities, while the submissions page offers more information on the current reading periods.
We also offer an online summer workshop in August featuring guest instructors with experience editing publications like The Paris Review, American Short Fiction, The Southern Review and others, and in May, we host a novel workshop.
The Masters Review blog is updated frequently with new information, fiction, essays, and reviews. Please keep an eye on it for our most recent content.
The Masters Review is committed to providing a platform to diverse, emerging voices. To that end, we do not discriminate on any basis, including age, race, sex or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, ancestry, disability, family status, national origin, or religion, nor do we tolerate discrimination in the writing submitted to us. We will decline work without complete review that we find discriminatory on any of the bases above. Continued violations of our values will result in a submission ban for the writer.
We believe and support the victims of discrimination and sexual harassment. The Masters Review reserves the right to deplatform writers if we learn they have violated our values elsewhere.
The Masters Review acknowledges the shortcomings of the publishing industry. We strive for inclusion and equity, and actively seek and celebrate the work of Black and Indigenous people, people of color, or otherwise marginalized and historically mis- and underrepresented writers.
