There are a lot of great contests, workshops, and literary magazines with deadlines in the next few weeks. Check it out!

AWP Award Series – AWP sponsors the Award Series, an annual competition for the publication of new book-length works. The competition is open to all authors regardless of nationality or residence, and is available to published and unpublished authors alike. Details here. DUE DATE: February 28, 2014. Entry Fee: $30

The Ledge Fiction Award – $1,000 and publication in the Ledge is awarded to a story up to 7500 words. Submission guidelines here. DUE DATE: February 28, 2014. $15 Entry Fee.

University of Wisconsin Writing Fellowships – A year’s fellowship will be awarded to six writers working to complete a book of poems, short stories, or a novel. Submit 10 pages of poetry or up to 30 pages of fiction (short story or novel excerpt) with entry fee to the University. Details here. DUE DATE: February 28, 2014. $45 Entry Fee.

Kenyon Review Short Fiction Contest – Publication in the Kenyon Review will be awarded to one fiction writer with a single submission up to 1200 words. The contest is open to all writers who have not yet published a book of fiction. Submissions must be 1200 words or fewer. The Kenyon Review will publish the winning short story in the Winter 2015 issue, and the author will be awarded a scholarship to attend the 2014 Writers Workshop, June 14th-21st, in Gambier, Ohio. Submit here. DUE DATE: February 28, 2014. $18 Entry Fee. (Includes 4 Issues of the KR.)

Glimmer Train Short Story Award for New Writers – We all know about Glimmer Train’s contests, which run monthly, but this category is only for new and emerging authors and awards $1500 for the best piece of original Fiction up to 12,000 words. Submission details here. DUE DATE: February 28, 2014. $15 Entry Fee.

WOW! Women on Writing – This flash fiction contest closes soon, so get those entries (up to 750 words) in now! Details here. DUE DATE: February 28, 2014. $10 Entry Fee.

The Pinch Literary Awards – A prize of $1,000 and publication in the Pinch is given annually for a poem, a short story, and an essay. Submit up to three poems or a short story or essay of up to 5,000 words. Details here. DUE DATE: March 1, 2014. $20 Entry Fee.

At The Masters Review, our mission is to support emerging writers. We only accept submissions from writers who can benefit from a larger platform: typically, writers without published novels or story collections or with low circulation. We publish fiction and nonfiction online year-round and put out an annual anthology of the ten best emerging writers in the country, judged by an expert in the field. We publish craft essays, interviews and book reviews and hold workshops that connect emerging and established writers.
